Department of Materials Forming and Process Technologies

Summary
Department of materials forming and process technologies originated from the foundry major of Zhenjiang institute of agricultural machinery in 1960 and was formally established in 2015 based on the Jiangsu province's dominant disciplines. The institute is the director of Jiangsu foundry society, the director of Jiangsu forging society and the training base of the international welding engineer. At present, the institute has established friendly and cooperative relations with universities and scientific research institutions in Germany, the United States, Japan and other countries. The Institute has established long-term cooperation with the 985 universities in China, such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shandong University, Southeast University and so on. Moreover, research on the relationship of Industry-University-Research cooperative model and cooperative stability with the surrounding enterprises, for instance, Chang Chai Limited by Share Ltd., Dingsheng Aluminum Co., Ltd. and Wuxi Zhongjie Shock Absorber Co., Ltd.. The Institute has 5 Provincial Engineering Centers, 7 Provincial graduate workstations and 15 university-industry-institute bases. All the staffs of the institute are guided by the development demand of international materials, responded as one and combined efforts, focusing on the issue of forming technology and advanced processing technology of metal materials. In order to educate high-level talents, we will contribute together to the sustainable development of college and the university.

Research team
The Institute has a excellent research team with a reasonable knowledge and rational age structure, active academic ideas and capable of undertaking large national scientific research projects. There are 23 faculty members, including 7 professors, 9 associate professors, 3 doctoral tutors, 17 master's tutors, and 7 overseas or working experiences. There are 17 doctorates among the teachers, including 3 members of the China Machinery Industry Education Steering Committee. In recent five years, there are more than 10 doctoral students, 200 master's degree students and 300 undergraduates have graduated. And the annual rate of students' employment is close to 100%.

Research area
The institute attaches great importance to the prospect of R&D industry and key technologies, and establishes a collaborative innovation platform to achieve the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Relying on the key laboratory of high-end structural materials in Jiangsu Province, the key laboratory of materials tribology in Jiangsu province and the material analysis and testing center of Jiangsu University, there are five main research directions and have obvious characteristics and advantages.
(1)The green casting forming technology, carry out the research of precision, green environmental advanced casting forming technology and processing equipment .

(2)The technology of precision forming and plastic processing, carry out the research on plastic forming technology of large and complex parts, study on the design of long life mould and quality control evaluation .

(3)Advanced materials connection technology, perform the research on special / dissimilar metal material welding, laser welding, plasma spray welding and other technology.

(4)Materials surface modification and optimization technology, research on the surface modification by laser processing, material biomimetic functional, micro arc electron and transparent conductive film surface modification.

(5) Simulation and simulation of material processing . carry out the numerical analysis and Simulation in the process of material casting, forging and welding by use of CAD and CAE software, predict quality and optimize the forming plan of product

Research findings
The Institute has strong scientific research capacity and got much achievements.Undertook more than 20 longitudinal subjects at the national and provincial levels, more than 30 projects have been entrusted to the development of enterprises and institutions, 4 awards for scientific and technological achievements of provincial, ministry and industry, more than 20 patents are authorized, more than 100 papers published by SCI and EI retrieval institutions, more than 15 million of scientific research funds. The Institute have made great contributions to the development of China's automobile, ship, rail transport, wind power, nuclear power and other industries.During the"13th Five-Year" period, the Institute will make efforts, to further enhance the influence of material science at home and abroad, make contribution to the rapid development of our country's economy.
