The Advanced Metallic Materials & Metallurgical Institute
Date:2018-05-30 | View:

The Advanced Metallic Materials & Metallurgical Institute was established in the year of 2015, which aims to cover the needing research of both the local business and national defence related industries, and to develop the high-end, pioneering innovative metallic materials and their processing technologies. The institute currently has 39 researchers, including 6 professors, 23 associate professors and one overseas expert, and all the personnel has been in charge of national or provincial and industry-jointed projects and being served as technical consultants in enterprises, which builds up a high-lever research team with international vision and sufficient engineering background.

In recent years, the institute is responsible for a numbers of national projects, including “The Twelfth Five”National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program): The development of advanced ultra-supercritical power unit of key boiler tube (No.2012AA03A501), etc., and National Natural Science Foundation of China projects: The evolution of oxidation wear of steel and wear mechanism (51071078), Study on the slag mechanism of waste boron mud as flux and its influence on slag metallurgical properties and mechanism (51174099), Study on the slag mechanism of waste boron mud as flux and its influence on slag metallurgical properties and mechanism (51174099), Study on preparation and electrochemical properties of novel cationic disordered lithium rich halite composite cathode materials (51774150), and The oxidation growth behavior and stress status of thermal barrier coatings: based on microstructure control (U1233111), etc. Meanwhile, the institute also takes charge of dozens of provincial projects, including Jiangsu provincial academic & corporate joint innovation fund-prospective joint research project: Research and development of innovative high performance stainless steel for key components of nuclear power equipment (BY2012169), Key research and development programs in Jiangsu province (industry foresight and common key technologies): Key technology and material optimization design of spray forming for high-end hot work die steel (BE2017127), and Jiangsu political guidance program (academic & corporate research cooperation)-prospective joint research project: Manufacture and development of a new wear and corrosion resistant engineering chain (BY2016072-04), etc.

The research institute has repeatedly been awarded with science and technology progress award above the ministerial and provincial level, the science and technology progress award of the Ministry of education and the Promotion Award of China's academic & corporate research cooperation. At present, more than 300 SCI search papers have been published, and more than 220 patents have been authorized; in addition, 6 on-campus bases, 4 international and 36 academic & corporate enterprise cooperation platforms have been established. The institute has made outstanding contributions to high-end talents training and national economic construction.

Besides, the Institute also has made important contributions to the scientific popularization, technical consultation and developing strategies of the industry. The director of the institute, Professor Cheng Xiaonong and Professor Luo Xinmin were recruited as experts by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and participated in the drafting of the roadmap for China's heat treatment and surface modification technology. Director Cheng Xiaonong also took the lead in writing the new material part of the technical roadmap for the "Made in China 2025" Jiangsu programme of action.
