Recently, Cheng Xiaonong group’s PCT (“Process for preparing various morphology NTE compounds ZrW_0.5Mo_1.5O₈”) has been authorized in the USA. The patent effectively realizes the controlling synthesis of NTE materials, which has the notable features of low energy consumption, wide adaptability and excellent product performance. It also lays the foundation for the practical application of NTE materials.

The research group began to engage in negative thermal expansion (NTE) materials in 2002 and has published more than 30 Science Citation Indexed papers and more than 10 authorized patents in China. In 2010, “New technology and application of zirconium oxide” won the second Technology Invention prize of the Chinese Ministry of Education.
