On July 25–30, 2019 the 8th National College Student Metallographic Skills Competition of the “Leica Cup” hosted by Changshu Institute of Technology sponsored by the Higher Materials Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, was held at the Southeast Campus of Changshu Institute of Technology. A total of 765 contestants and more than 500 teachers from 255 colleges and universities such as Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology and Shanghai Jiaotong University participated in the competition.

     After the fierce competition in the second round and finals, the students of metal materials (2017) from our School of Materials Science and Engineering achieved excellent results. Hao Yaqi won the first prize, Bai Shun won the second prize, and Cao Yu won the third prize. At the same time, due to the outstanding performance of the three, our school as whole won the third prize. Shao Honghong, Wang Andong and Wang Lan received three awards for outstanding teachers.

      This competition is the most comprehensive event sponsored by the Higher Materials Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education. The competition adopts the form of “promoting reform & learning by competition”. It aims to improve the metallographic skills and experimental hands-on ability of college students, and provides a mutual exchange, mutual learning and competition for college students.
