There are 13 research fellows in the Institute of Alloys and Composites with High Performance, including 3 professors and 3 associated professors. Professor Yutao Zhao is the institute director, who is now the national candidate of the Millions of Talent Projects and the expert enjoying special allowance from State Council. In 2011, the research group has been named as the Excellent Scientific and Technological Innovation Team in Jiangsu Province.

The institute actively develops a new generation of nickel-based superalloys and the key technology of single crystal blades for aviation application, makes efforts to break through the in situ preparation and forming processing technology of metal matrix composites, and does the research and development of industrialization application of new alloys and composites in aviation and automobile fields, while carefully cultivates the research direction of functional composite materials. Until now, 3 first and 4 second prizes of provincial science and technology awards, one China Excellent Patent Award, one Innovation Award for Chinese Industry-University-Research Cooperation, and one China Market Golden Bridge Award have been won. Until now, more than 80 transferable invention patents have been authorized.

There are several research platforms in the institute, including Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Aluminum and Magnesium Alloys and Their Composites with High Performance, Jiangsu Research Center of Aluminum Matrix Composite Engineering and Technology, and Machinery Industry Federation Key Laboratory of Metal-based Functional Materials and Composites.
