Introduction to Institute of Inorganic Materials and Devices

Inorganic non-metallic materials have a long history of scientific research and personnel training. The Institute of Ceramics was founded in 1986 and enrolled undergraduate students in 1995. In April 2015, on the basis of combing and consolidating related scientific research directions, relying on the superior disciplines of Jiangsu Province, a new institute for inorganic non-metallic materials and devices was established. Focusing on the international academic frontier and the major needs of the national economy, the research focuses on the synthesis and preparation of advanced inorganic non-metallic materials, structural performance characterization,theoretical simulation and calculation, device functional integration, and the establishment of a complete Research&Development system from the original innovation of new materials to the industrial application of end products. The system fosters high-level and high-quality senior professionals with innovation and entrepreneurship and international perspectives.

Research team: The institute has a talented team with a strong cross-convergence of academic background, a reasonable age structure, and a high academic level and innovative ability. At present, there are 28 researchers, including 10 professors, 13 associate professors and 5 lecturers.One person was selected for the plan to innovate in leading talents, the country’s one-hundred-million talents project, and the young and middle-aged leader in scientific and technological innovation in the Ministry of Science and Technology.One person enjoys the special allowance of the State Council, and nine persons are selected for the provincial and ministerial talent plan (including 2 new talents of the new century of the Ministry of Education, 1 person of double-creation of talents in Jiangsu Province, 2 persons of “333”  talents in Jiangsu Province, 3 persons of “Six Talent Peaks”,and 1 person of the backbone teachers of the “blue project”). Two were selected as top-notch talents in the school, and eight were selected as key young teachers in the school. The multi-functional materials and device team was selected for the 2016 Jiangsu Cyan Engineering Technology Innovation Team and the 2017  “Six Talent Peaks” Innovative Talent Team in Jiangsu Province.

Scientific research direction: The institute focuses on major national economic needs such as energy efficient conversion storage and utilization, microelectronics and optoelectronics information technology, environmental monitoring and pollution control, etc., and determines three main research directions: 1) Sensing materials and devices; 2) Semiconductor light catalytic and micro-nano devices; 3) New energy materials and devices; 4) Theoretical simulation calculations.

Research conditions: At present, it is mainly equipped with optical film coating machine, multi-functional high-temperature furnace, cold isostatic press, freeze dryer, photocatalytic reaction instrument, high temperature expansion-contraction tester, high temperature contact angle measurement instrument, vector network analyzer, ferroelectric analyzer, impedance analyzer, static thermomechanical analyzer, laser thermal conductivity meter, nano particle size and zeta potential analyzer, laser particle size distribution analyzer, specific surface and porosity analyzer, infrared spectrometer,UV-visible spectrophotometer, Instrumentation equipment such as Dell high-performance computing clusters.

Scientific research achievements: The Institute members have published more than 500 SCI papers, and the first inventor has authorized more than 140 invention patents. The Institute is responsible for the completion of 3 national 863 projects, 15 National Natural Science Funds,along with more than 30 items of Ministry of Education and other provincial-level projects. It won two national technical invention second prizes (ranked first and fifth respectively), one prize for the first and second prizes for technical inventions of the Ministry of Education, and six other provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress awards. At present, there are 10 National Natural Science Funds under investigation and 14 provincial and ministerial projects. During the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”period, the Institute strived to make new breakthroughs in the training and introduction of high-level personnel and the transformation of major scientific research projects and achievements, in order to comprehensively improve the academic influence of our university’s material discipline at home and abroad and serve the regional economy for making greater contributions to development.
